01 Apr A Historic Day
On Tuesday 1st April Wellington Town Council opened its new reception area on the ground floor of 30 Fore Street. This step was taken following the Town Council’s purchase of the building in 2024 and its devolution of assets from Somerset Council from 1st April 2025. The new reception is more prominent and accessible to all, replacing the previous reception that was on the first floor of 28 Fore Street.
We also had a small ribbon cutting at Wellington Park to celebrate us taking ownership of this and a number of other assets from Somerset Council from today.
Deputy Mayor Catherine Govier-Wiggins had the honour of cutting the ribbons with scissors and garden shears. When opening the new reception area she said, “Today is a very momentous day for Wellington Town Council and one of the biggest in its history.
We are excited to be more accessible to the community and welcome members of the public to come to us if you have any queries or concerns that the town council can help you with. I am honoured to open the reception on behalf of Wellington Town Council.”
After a little tour around the new reception area, Catherine walked with our officers and press to Wellington Park, where she said, “We are taking on the ownership and management of the green spaces in Wellington including our beautiful town park which is a staple of the town. We are determined to be more responsive in dealing with issues affecting the green spaces and to keep the town looking smart. We want to welcome our new staff and thank them and our existing staff for all their hard work to get us to this point.
It’s impossible to mention the park without honouring Friends of Wellington Park who do so much to make the park what it is and we’re very excited for their spring fayre on 4th May. I am honoured to announce the park is now under Wellington Town Council ownership.”
Our reception will be open weekdays from 9am until 4pm where our staff members will be happy to help or point you in the right direction.
