Wellington is a small market town in rural Somerset, England, situated near Taunton in the Taunton Deane district, close to the border of Devon and the Blackdown Hills. The town has a population of around 15,000 and is currently represented by 15 councillors. It is a political council with 5 independents, 4 Conservatives, 4 Liberal Democrats and 2 Labour
Council meetings are conducted by the Town Mayor Councillor Janet Lloyd or, in her absence, the Deputy Mayor Councillor Mark Lithgow
The full Council Meetings are usually at 7pm on the 1st Monday of each month at the United Reformed Church, Fore Street. They are preceded each month on the same day by the finance committee at 5.45pm and by the Planning Meeting of the Council which starts at 6.15pm. (Times may alter see Agendas) All meetings of the council are open to the public. The public may speak and ask questions. The council also holds additional public meetings when a particular subject needs detailed discussion.
